Pool Resurface, Tile and Coping

Swimming Pool Resurfacing

How do you know if your pool needs resurfacing?

If you have “popoffs”. Popoffs are where the old surface is delaminating from the next layer down. It could be the original pool surface or from a previous resurface.

If you have rubouts. Rubouts are where the pool surface has rubbed off down to the previous layer. It means that the current layer is getting thin.

If there is alot of staining or discoloration. This can be caused by alot of different things, plant/leaf materials can stain the surface, metal objects left in the pool can cause staining, and even chlorine can “yellow” a pools surface over time.

Pool Resurface Tile and Coping

There are 4 types of pool resurfacing:

Plaster

Plaster, which is also can be refered to as Marcite. It is traditionally white but now comes in many other colors as well. Plaster has a very soft, smooth “buttery” texture and is very durable. It generally lasts about 5+ years in a residential setting 2 years for a commercial. It is the smoothist surface and is the most cost effictive of the mineral surfaces.

Quartz Plaster Hybrid

We take regular plaster material (Marcite) and add a small amount of quartz material to make the plaster stronger and last longer. It comes in a wide variety of beautiful colors, that can subtally enhance the color of the pool. It is not as smooth as the straight plaster. But, when cost is an issue this can be a good option.

Full Quartz

Full Quartz Resurface is a premium blend of crushed quartz, marcite, and mineral based pigments. Natural quartz is one of the world’s strongest minerals.

Pebble Finishes

Pebble finishes come in an enormus variety of beautiful colors and can be from micro pebble to larger pebbles. You can even mix and match to create your own unique color! It is not as smooth as the plaster but it is smoother than the quartz and easily lasts 25 or more years in a residential setting.

Pool Paint

Epoxy Pool paint is a budget friendly option when the pool is in very bad shape and the cost of the other surfaces is over the budget. It is recommended for newly sandblasted surfaces, rough or discolored plaster. You may also convert rubber-based pools to epoxy for a more “ceramic” like finish. It also inhibits the growth of algae and resists common pool stains.

Waterline Tile Replacement

Pool Resurface Tile and Coping

How do you know if your pool needs new waterline tile?

1.  If it is falling off. If the tile is older or original to the pool it may be that the “glue” holding it on is just not able to hold it on anymore, or it could have just worn away.

2. If it is broken or discolored. Broken tiles can also be a sign that the thinset “glue”, is just not holding anymore. Discolored tiles can be caused by tanning oils or sunscreens, dirt or calcium buildup.

3. If its just outdated. Outdated is… well just outdated, and there are many, many new styles to choose from.

Pool Coping Replacement

How do you know if your pool needs new coping?

1.  If it is separating from the pool deck. It is the same as the tile if it is older or original to the pool it may be that the “glue” holding it on is just not able to hold it on anymore, or it could have just worn away.

2. If it is broken or discolored. Again it could be that it is just old and is coming apart from the base that it is on.

3. If its just outdated. There are many other options that could be more desirable. Such as cooling effects, anti slip, and more.
