Swimming Pool Resurfacing

How do you know if your pool needs resurfacing?

If you have “popoffs”. Popoffs are where the old surface is delaminating from the next layer down. It could be the original pool surface or from a previous resurface.

If you have rubouts. Rubouts are where the pool surface has rubbed off down to the previous layer. It means that the current layer is getting thin.

If there is alot of staining or discoloration. This can be caused by alot of different things, plant/leaf materials can stain the surface, metal objects left in the pool can cause staining, and even chlorine can “yellow” a pools surface over time.

There are 3 types of pool resurfacing:

1.  Plaster which is also refered to as Gunnite or Marcite. It is usually white but can be othere colors, with a very soft, smooth “buttery” texture. It generally lasts about 5+ years in a residential setting 2 years for a commercial.

2. Quartz is plaster with little bits of quartz added. It makes it much stronger there fore making it last much longer. It comes in a wide variety of beautiful colors. It is not as smooth as the plaster (it is quartz rock after all).

3. Pebble Tech (Stone Scapes) is also plaster with pebbles added. It makes it even stronger and more durable than quartz. It comes in an enormus variety of beautiful colors and can be from micro pebble to larger pebbles. You can even mix and match to create your own unique color! It is not as smooth as the plaster but it is smoother than the quartz and easily lasts 25 years in a residential setting.

Waterline Tile Replacement

How do you know if your pool needs new waterline tile?

1.  If it is falling off. If the tile is older or original to the pool it may be that the “glue” holding it on is just not able to hold it on anymore, or it could have just worn away.

2. If it is broken or discolored.

3. If its just outdated.

Pool Coping Replacement

How do you know if your pool needs new coping?

1.  If it is separating from the pool deck. It is the same as the tile if it is older or original to the pool it may be that the “glue” holding it on is just not able to hold it on anymore, or it could have just worn away.

2. If it is broken or discolored. Again it could be that it is just old and is coming apart from the base that it is on.

3. If its just outdated. There are many other options that could be more desirable. Such as cooling effects, anti slip, and more.

Pool Decking Options

How do you know if your pool deck needs renovating?

1.  If it has large cracks or is separating or sinking. This could mean that the dirt underneath has settled or has been washed out.

2. If it is stained or rough. Staining could be from plant material, or just stuff spilled on it over the years. Pressure washing works to a degree to get the staining off but repeated pressure washing leaves the concrete very rough and hard to walk on.

3. If its just HOT! Concrete can get really really hot in the summer, and even burn your feet.
